The Anguish of a Mother's Cry

TFH Journal Entry....

January 28th, 2005

Rrrring, rrrring it’s 10:15pm, another call in the night.  “Hello-o”, I say.  “Hi, I was given your number and told that I could call you”, said the caller.  “Yes, what can I help you with?”  “I have a friend whose daughter is in the hospital dying, and was told that you go to hospitals and pray, is that true?”  Yes, I do, tell me about the person you are calling for.”  “Well, the doctors are saying she has only a 5% chance to live.  I have the Mother’s phone number, she said she would talk to you.”  I’d be glad to, is my reply.

As I dial the number, I am praying……Soon, I hear the hell-o of a sad and broken voice ans. the phone.  “Hello, Linda, my name is Teri, your friend Kelly gave me your number and told me to give you a call.  What can I help you with?”  Tearfully, she explains the fight her daughter has been going through.  It seems Roxanne, has had internal bleeding as a result of a blood disease and a recent bone marrow transplant.  Though surgery was performed to stop the bleeding, she is still bleeding and very ill.  The doctors have given Roxy a 5% chance of living.”   Linda, did you want me to go up and pry for her?”  YES, if you would, she is at OHSU, in intensive care.  Tell them you are an Aunt or whatever, so that they will let you in.”

I hear the desperation in her voice. The mother’s heart fighting for the life of her daughter, and breaking at the same time at the prognosis.

“Linda, may I pray for you?”  Yessss, she sobs, so we pray.  Then I reassure her that I will be leaving shortly for the hospital.  “OH, thank you, thank you so much!”

Marty & I jump in the car and head for the hospital.  There we find Roxanne hooked up to a ventilator and other monitors.  Her sister is there with her.  We introduce ourselves.  April is so thankful that I have come to pray.  “No one has come up yet to pray with us.  We tried local pastor, but they haven’t returned our calls.”  “Well, I am here now, so lets pray.”  I pray and tell the spirit of disease, sickness and death to “GO” in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, because He has given us the authority in Him to do so.”  To my joy, April was agreeing with me!!  Hallelujah!!

Later, after we are done praying, we go and meet the rest of the family.  Marty and I talk to them and minister in love to them.  We soon pray with them as well.    They have so many questions about God and death and His goodness……thank you Lord for this divine appointment.  I ask all of them there if they have ever accepted Jesus into their hearts……..praise God, they said yes!  We stay until the wee hours of the morning, allowing the love of Jesus to pour over them, continuing to talk and pray.  Each time we pray, my hand is grabbed and squeezed with desperation and the need of the secure loving hand of Jesus.

As we leave, I am hugged goodnight with the promise that I would continue to pray and that they could call us any time.

Lord, I wouldn’t trade the life You have given me for anything.  What an honor it is to allow the hurting and broken to see YOU and to feel YOUR loving kindness and compassion.  Thank You for using this once broken and useless vessel.
